Personal Statement
Athletics have always been a part of my personal development. Throughout both middle and high schools I have been afforded the opportunity to play with and work for programs that have focused on high performance athletics, personal growth and leadership. I am looking forward to continuing my athletic career in college. I believe my athleticism coupled with my leadership skills would make me an asset to any team, regardless of the size institution.
While I have played and enjoyed many sports, I have found lacrosse to be the most rewarding and challenging. In the position of goalie, I strive to maintain balance with my teammates and exercise leadership throughout the game. As a goalie, I am uniquely situated to see beyond the current play. My role is to see the whole field and help guide the game to a win. I possess the maturity, fortitude, ability, and sheer gut necessary to be successful in this position. Furthermore, I recognize the strength, talent, and intellect brought to the game by teammates, and I continue to learn form them.
As is usually the case with high school students, I have considered several fields of study. I am currently most interested in engineering; however, as I continue to learn, my interest in political science, criminal justice, and homeland security continues to pique. I find myself following in the footsteps of my father who has worked as a high school football coach and a public servant.
Growing up in a household with a high school football coach and a public servant taught me early on about the commitment required to be in a successful program. My weekends and summers have been spent attending practices, watching game film, and learning about strategy and situational advantages. When my father and I weren't working with his team or attending my practices, we would work together on projects in his role as an Athletics Coordinator with local government. Through this, I learned about the importance of bringing athletics to those less fortunate in our community; and I am proud of the work he has done and what it has taught me about my responsibility as an athlete and a community member.
