Personal Statement

I started playing lacrosse in third grade and instantly feel in love with the game.  I am not sure if it was the fact that you could use the stick to hit kids or to score goals that caught my attention. I am sure that I am grateful that I found "my sport".

Early on I established major goals for myself. The first goal was  to make my high school varsity team as a freshman and to start every game for the next four years. The second goal was to play college lacrosse. Through hard work and perseverance I obtained my first goal in 2018, making the varsity lacrosse team as a freshman, starting every game and  assisting my team in winning the Class B State Championship. To top off a great season seven of my teammates, including myself,  made the state All Star Team.

As much as I learned from being a freshman starter on a winning team,  I learned so much more from the losses experienced my sophomore year. One key thing I learned is that as a player you may be good, but unless you work as a team to be the best the goal is not going to be reached.  Our team had a few key players, individuals that worked hard to  be the best, but we failed to lead the entire team towards the common goal of being the best in the state.

Personally my second year on varsity was humbling, after a stand-out freshman year, I was put into leadership role as a sophomore. A role I thought I was ready for, but looking back I really I could have done so much better. I have taken what I learned from the first two years and will be implanting a plan for the 2021 season.  The goal of my plan is to continue to work to be a better player, teammate and to help prepare my team for next year.  I am going to be holding Sunday "Captains Practices", working on conditioning, drills and most importantly instilling one clear message, one clear goal which will help to ensure our path to success. The message being "to be relentless, to win a State Championship".

As a player I am versatile, playing defense/LSM for my high school team and when asked, short stick mid-fielder for my travel team. A recent post by my travel coach Joe Hezlep of 4Leaf Lacrosse New England states " If Colin were a football recruit, he would simply be listed at "Athlete". His skill sets make hime one of the most versatile players in the state of Maine. When he has a pole in his hands, his speeds allows him to play the ball in areas the field other defensemen would not date to go.  His speed can turn any ground ball into an instant fast-break. And when he grabs a shot stick, he has one the hardest overhand shots around. His ability to stretch the D opens up a lot of space for his teammates admit when teams do not press out to him, the goalie is the one who suffers."

My next goal, playing college lacrosse continues to be a driving force in my quest to be a strong player and an even stronger team member.  I continue to work on my conditioning, strength training and agilities, as well as practicing, as allowed with my travel team in small group training sessions. Academically I continue to  challenged myself by taking honors and AP courses and am determined to have a strong academic year and raise my class rank and GPA.

Thank you for your time,

Colin
