Personal Statement
My interest in sports started with running when I was in the first grade because I was upset that my older sister and dad would go out running and leave me at home with my mom; it looked like they were having a lot more fun. By the time I was in 2nd grade, I convinced my mom and dad to let me ‘try to’ run a ½ marathon with my dad and sister and we ended up completing two that year. The next year, at the age of 9, and in 3rd grade, I set a ‘Single Age’ (9) World Record at the Cleveland ½ marathon by running it in 2 hrs 11 minutes and 3 seconds. I’ve since completed 13 half-marathons with my dad and use our training time to stay connected and keep him in shape.
As time has passed, I expanded to playing Basketball, Lacrosse, Swimming and participating in Triathlon’s; all things that have led me to have some great experiences at the state and national levels of competition. But, I've fallen in love with Lacrosse and know this is something I want to continue to do at the collegiate level.
To have the opportunity to be a college athlete and compete at this level is a focus point and goal that I have made for myself. My previous success across multiple sports and in Lacrosse and competing at the National Championships (three years in a row) has made me realize that my dreams could become a reality. I have really focused these past two summers on my technique and my mental health by working with a sports psychologist on ‘growth mindset’ and overcoming adversity.
Now that I’m a Junior in high school, I'm involved in many student activities and am a leader within my school and on my athletic teams. I am a self-starter and take a disciplined approach in my academics and training. I put my heart into every goal I set and understand achieving each goal means getting one step closer to my ultimate dream.
Although I am not sure what I want to study in college at this time, I hope to find a college where I can pursue my love for competition at its highest level and continue to excel academically while pursuing my degree, whatever that may be.
I am open to all divisions/levels of college and have an interest in attending a school whose curriculum involves a study abroad program. It's important to me to be in a program where I will compete early in college and make an impact as a freshman. Thank you for your consideration.
