Personal Statement
When I look into my collegiate future and picture my aspirations, I instantly think of my three core values: relationships (friends & family), lacrosse, and academic success. I consider relationships to be a crucial aspect of my collegiate experience due to the fact that having a strong support system both on and off the field has always allowed me to thrive, and generally knowing that there are people who would willingly back me up in any situation. is very important to me. Next, lacrosse, another major element I look to pursue in my collegiate experience, is something that I can't live without. Ever since I was young, I always have loved to be active, whether it be playing soccer, baseball, basketball, nordic skiing or whatever other activity I could get my hands on. To me, lacrosse is not just an activity, rather a remedy where I can escape the chaotic hustle and bustle of this world and immerse myself in doing what I love. Lacrosse, which not only has taught me necessary life skills such as integrity and leadership, has also been a great academic guide for me in the sense that it gives me a structured schedule where I can balance my time in between lacrosse and academic environments. Finally, academics, which are perhaps most important to me, are something I wish to continue to thrive in while I am in college. On top of lacrosse, whether it be school, class council, or Harvard Model UN, I am very busy, however, I prefer to spend my time this way and open myself up to new, interesting things rather than sitting around doing nothing.
The reason why I am a good candidate for a coaches lacrosse team is due to my strong personality, my heart, and my integrity in terms of sticking to my morals. I am commonly praised by coaches, teachers, parents et cetera of having an "uplifting personality" and that I am a thermostat rather than a thermometer. By this I mean, a thermometer is a passive device that tells you the temperature of the air, whereas a thermostat actually changes it for the better. I compare myself to a thermostat because rather than being a passive person that just goes with the flow, I bring positive energy to the room and make other people around me feel better. Next, I believe coaches would want me on their team due to my heart. I have a knack to never give up whether it be on the field or in the classroom, and even in times where I may suspect failure, I never give up. I adopted this part of my character when I was in Maryland for a lacrosse tournament and my dad and I went to tour the United States Naval Academy (one of my top schools along with all of the other academies). Scribed on the wall was the Navy's motto "Don't give up the ship", and to this day, the never surrender motto has been my driving force, and I continue to have the motto plastered to my bedroom wall and computer background so I can remind myself of what I strive for every day. On the lacrosse field, heart has always been important to me due to my size. When I go to play a highschool game or club game, and I look at the other team and see hulking kids warming up, I tell myself that I will put my best effort in and play my hardest, and whether I win or lose, with this mindset I know I will always prevail. Finally, my integrity in terms of sticking to my morals is top notch. Whether it be resisting the temptation to hang out with my friends on a school night when I have homework, being a good role model/leader, or just generally staying loyal and true, I feel this is a crucial value for coaches to consider when selecting a team and is something that I feel differentiates me from other prospective recruits.
When I look forward into my collegiate aspirations, relationships, lacrosse, and academics all jump out at me and are a crucial part of my development as a person and allowing me to be the best, most successful, person I can be.
