Personal Statement

I started lacrosse at the late age of eleven, because I wanted to play a contact sport, but my mom wouldn’t let me play football. Finally, when I suggested lacrosse, both my parents gave in. Ever since then, the interest I developed during my first year blossomed into a full-fledged passion for the sport, eventually leading me to attend prospect camps at Cornell and Wesleyan, with plans to take on more. This passion led me to be recognized by my coaches, who requested me to play JV as an eighth grader, and moved me up to play varsity during the post season of my freshman year. Never content with how I play, I strive to continually improve by regularly practicing on my own and seeking out the presence of better players to play with. The work I put in has allowed me to become faster, more communicative, and better at handling the ball on the field. However, I still know that I can always improve my skills even further.

My parents have always driven me to take my schoolwork seriously, and that’s just what I do. However, I have not done so solely because of my parents, but due to the dream that one day I can be an entrepreneur that does business in the field of science. If one were to call me ambitious, they would not be wrong. The effort I put forward in academics led me to believe that you can become as skilled as you want at a sport without a quality education, but you won’t be very skilled at achieving other goals if you don’t have a good education.

As for other points of interest about myself, I was accepted into a three year science research program that will conclude with college credits. There, I plan to develop a research project about genetics that will include synthesizing a hypothesis, collecting data, and presenting my research at various science fairs.   Scouts is also an activity that I have dedicated myself to since I was in first grade. As of now, I am a Life Scout in Carmel Troop One, but I am not content at that rank, since I am only two merit badges and a project away from earning the rank of Eagle. Currently, I am communicating with board members at my local church to determine what I can do for them that would count as an Eagle Scout project.

In college, I hope to play lacrosse and put tremendous effort forward into the sport. Coincidentally, I still wish to use my group, academic, and leadership skills, even if they are applied to a new use.
