Personal Statement
I started my high school career last year at Chaminade High School in Mineola, NY. It was an all-male Catholic High School that had me commuting 3.0 hours per day. It was a tremendously challenging experience that taught me a lot. Time management was absolutely necessary to manage academics, sports, and travel. It made it difficult to fully experience high school. To get home in time to do my homework I had to leave right after school. I had little time for clubs and activities. I made some great friends, but they all lived more than an hour away from me. I committed to the first year of high school and gave it my best shot. I am really happy that I showed myself that I could make it through such a tough situation, but felt that I would be more successful at my local high school. I started at Ward Melville High School this fall. It has turned out to be a great opportunity. I now attend after school events almost every day. I have more time to focus on and enjoy my classes. I have much more time for sports and personal training as well. I am confident that my new school will allow me to be a more well rounded person and better prepare me for college.
Sophomore year has been an awesome lacrosse experience for me. I started season as a starter on the Junior Varsity team and was asked by my coach to take a leadership role. I realized that helping to explain things to the younger players made me a better player. I was recruited up to the Varsity team halfway through the season. The Varsity team won the state championship and was ranked the #1 team in the country. Practicing against this caliber of player has dramatically improved my skills. I saw first hand that simply putting great players on a field doesn't necessarily make a great team. We won the championship because we committed to each other to play our best and we played as a team. This experience is one I intend to take with me not only to my next lacrosse experience, but also in life.
