My name is Vincent Crispino and I am a lacrosse defenseman. My love for this sport came to me during my elementary school years. Lacrosse was not a sport that was played formally on Staten Island and I was introduced to it by a few boys who played it on the street. I took to the game right away and convinced my parents to buy me a lacrosse stick. Once I had the proper equipment I basically taught myself the game. From that point on my passion for the game grew.
I began formally playing lacrosse at a local league. I was in middle school and played with them for three years. It was during that time that I really began to see where I played best on the field. I also played football during that time as well. Both sports proved to me that I was defenseman all around. Once I became a freshman at my high school I tried out for our JV football and lacrosse teams. Attending a large high school of almost 4,000 students puts most of the athletes at a disadvantage. The JV football team had 92 players my freshman year! I practiced hard and committed myself to the game and saw the field that year! During the spring I made the JV lacrosse team and was a freshman starter, playing every game. I focused, worked hard and was eager to hone my skills.
As a sophomore I was faced with a personal challenge. It was time to make an important decision regarding my high school and potential college athletic future. I made the football team once again. As the season progressed I was given the chance to try out for the Spartan Lacrosse Club Team, which is the only lacrosse travel team on Staten Island. The team is made up mainly of Juniors and Seniors. I made the team though as a sophomore, and knew a decision about continuing football would have to be made. My decision to focus on Lacrosse full time, 12 months a year was a no-brainer! It’s my passion and where I feel the most comfortable. I am now focusing on the sport of lacrosse full time and I could not be happier!
My academics are equally as important. As of now, I have an interest in pursuing a career in accounting, with the goal of becoming a CPA. The balance of attending a college that can give me the education I need, and playing a sport I love, is the ultimate goal. I considered myself to be motivated and dedicated to continuing to learn the sport, fine tune my skills and stay focused on my goals.
