Personal Statement
My name is Jacob Corfey, and I live for crew. I was originally introduced to rowing through my parents, more specifically my Father who rowed during his younger years at Matson. At a young age I wanted to become a part of something bigger, but couldn’t quite tell what that was, but I knew I had a purpose.
In the Summer of fifth grade was when everything changed for me, I became a rower. It wasn’t easy, as I was unathletic and lacked self confidence. I quickly learned that rowing was more than just maneuvering a boat- it requires team-work, confidence, determination, and passion. Throughout my 6+ years of rowing, I have developed all of these attributes and more, it allowed me to build myself up and shape the character I am today, in and outside of rowing. Not only have I become an astute individual rower, but I have also learned to value the supportive community that rowing inevitably offers. With the support of my family, friends, and rowing community I have attended regions in my club’s lightweight 8, have won regional championships in the 3rd varsity 8, and have won in the varsity 8 in my junior year of high school.
It would be an honor and privilege to continue this legacy and further my education while I also pursue competitive rowing. My purpose is to perform at my most maximum potential, support my teammates, and inspire others to strive for greatness. If given the opportunity, I will not disappoint, thank you in advance for your consideration!
