I am a second year coxswain, but a 3rd year rower. I competed in my first year of novice as a rower. Having that experience has enabled me to understand the stroke differently than other coxswains. Knowing the physical demands that my crew is undergoing gives me the ability to relate to them in a way only a rower would understand. Directing my crew on how to keep the boat set up, gain speed, and establish a rhythm early in a piece is something that rowing instilled in me. However, being 115 lbs and only 5'6, I was quite small for a rower, and was persuaded by my coaches to switch to coxing, which is where my skills have flourished. I am an oncoming varsity coxswain, and am being coached under Nick D'Antoni for the 2018-2019 season. Being a girl on a men's team has its challenges, but those challenges have helped me develop into a stronger coxswain.
