Gavin Dunn '21 Recruiting Profile

My freshman year, I was playing football and basketball but was eager to compete in a sport in the Spring. I didn’t know what to do, but I knew there were many options available from baseball, track and field, and even volleyball. However what I never considered was a sport that would not only challenge me physically, but mentally, and that sport was crew. Crew has and still shapes me into the person I always strive to be. The sport challenges me to be high achieving, respectable, and a good team player. Gaining the trust of the guys in my boat helped me to better understand the full dynamic of what a team sport is and what the team needs to excel. Although we don’t always place, I understand that winning comes through sacrifice not for myself but the people in the boat. I learned that doing things for myself only gets me so far, but having the extra motor to truly care about someone else on a team is irreplaceable. I am my best self when I row crew, and am passionate about continuing my rowing career in college.
