I am currently a junior (class of 2025) attending Pine Crest School in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, During the COVID pandemic, I started my journey toward exercise and getting in shape. While almost everything was closed, I discovered water polo in a nearby pool in Pompano beach. When I first started playing water polo I had to learn to swim faster and to coordinate swimming with the fundamentals of the sport. The first day, I could barely breathe but after several weeks I could see my hard work paying off. After a year or so I was selected to the ODP team for the southeast zone and later selected to go to the ODP national championships as a member of the southeast zone.
When I entered high school I was looking for a sport and since water polo was not offered I went out for crew. I knew after the first practice that I had found my home. While water polo had prepared me for the hard work and from all the swimming I had the cardiovascular endurance rowing is my calling. Rowing has been a decision that has paid off in innumerable ways. It has given me a great set of friends and together we work on making our team stronger and more competitive. As a small school, we placed 17th (5th scholastically) in the 4+ at the Head of the Charles this year. I also placed 10th in the U19 youth nationals pair with myself and my partner both only being 16 at the time. Rowing has pushed me to challenge myself both mentally and physically. It has taught me that I can go further than I originally thought I could go. Due to my work ethic, I improved from freshman year 6:43 ERG to sophomore 6:32 to my junior year winning the US Rowing Indoor National Championship in 6:22.9. My school record is 6:18 and my goal is to surpass that by the end of this school year. Another goal is to finish in the top 10 at the Head of the Charles next year with the 4+. I am devoted to getting stronger and faster and in maintaining my GPA so that I can get an opportunity to row collegiately.
