Hello, my name is Mauricio Alanis and I am a student athlete attending Miami Beach Senior High in Miami Florida. I am a Hispanic student-athlete who emigrated from Mexico who is constantly striving to improve in every single aspect within my life; I am a lightweight rower with an aptitude for school, in which I feel I am striving on both fronts. I have racing experience in some state competitions, but I working hard for a medal at nationals in lightweight events with my club this year. I am constantly training and studying in order to stay ahead of the curve, whether it be lowering my 2k scores, improving my GPA, or improving my SAT score. I am different from other student-athletes as I feel I have created a great balance in both my academics and my rowing career; I am one to never give up and will always work through thick and thin to improve on everything.

Honors Classes:
Yes. I am in a multitude of Honor Classes for the IB program; the honor classes are labeled as HL within the IB program. These classes are for my senior year and thus I am not taking them currently but I have been approved to take all of the HL courses that the IB program has to offer. The other Honors class I am taking is Debate 3.
AP Classes:
Yes. I am in the IB program at Miami Beach Senior High and most of my schedule is based on these courses, with the major courses being Philosophy SL, Spanish HL, Biology SL, and Theory of Knowledge. The remaining classes are AP Calculus-AB, AP US History, and AP English Literature.
