Rowing has been more than just a sport for me—it’s been a way of finding peace and focus. From the moment I first took to the water in grade 9, under the incredible coaching team at EL Crossley in Fonthill, Ontario, I knew this was where I belonged. The connection I feel with the water, the boat, and my crew brings a sense of calm and clarity to my ADHD brain, allowing me to be at my best both on and off the water.
Rowing has taught me the value of versatility, both as an athlete and as a teammate. Throughout my rowing journey, I’ve embraced the challenge of mastering various positions—whether as a coxswain, stroke, scull, or sweep. Each role has uniquely shaped my understanding of the sport and deepened my commitment to my team.
As a coxswain, I’ve honed my leadership skills, guiding my crew with precision and strategy. I’ve learned to read the water, anticipate challenges, and make split-second decisions that can turn the tide of a race. This experience has not only made me a more confident leader but also taught me the importance of clear communication and trust within a team.
Rowing as stroke has pushed me to be the rhythmic heartbeat of the boat. I’ve developed a strong sense of pacing, endurance, and the ability to set a steady, powerful tempo that the entire crew can rely on. It’s a position that demands both physical and mental stamina, and I’ve embraced the responsibility of setting the tone for success.
Together, these experiences have made me a versatile rower, capable of contributing in multiple capacities to any crew. My adaptability, leadership, and technical skills allow me to seamlessly transition between roles, always with the goal of enhancing team performance.
As I look ahead to my post-secondary journey, I’m eager to pursue a degree in business. I believe the focus, determination, consistency, and leadership skills I’ve developed through rowing will serve me well in both my academic and professional pursuits.
I’m excited to continue my rowing career at the collegiate level and bring the same passion and dedication to my studies in business.
