Personal Statement
I have been rowing since 2016. I developed a lot of important skills over the past several years (both on and off the water) since I started out rowing at Community Rowing Inc (CRI) where I learned technical skills and how to be a crew teammate - not all teams are the same! Once I got into High School, I wanted to row with my school friends, so I joined Arlington-Belmont (AB) Crew in Arlington, MA. The AB Crew team has been through many transitions (including a pandemic during my Sophomore to Junior year), but has always been a great team who works hard and also has lot of fun together. I rowed in 4s and 8s from 2016-2020, Sculled as a Junior (when COVID rules didn't allow for more than 2 in a boat), and now I am back in 8s and 4s again. I see myself as a leader, as I am a bold, 6'1" and 153 lb guy who helps motivate and encourage others. These days I am often a 7 seat or 8 seat, where I do my best to set the tone and pace for everyone in my boat. I work hard, help bring others along, and try hard to help the team be its best.
In college, I am interested in rowing for a team with a group of awesome people and a great coach. I am looking for a DIII or Club team where we hold one another accountable but where rowing is not 100% of the non-academic experience. I also do well academically and want to go to a college away from home where I can get a great education, play sports, and meet lifelong friends. Seems idealistic, but I guess that is what I am looking for in my college experience!
