Personal Statement
As a kid, I tried every sport out there and nothing seemed to fit. When I was 13, on a whim my mom signed me up for crew camp. After my first week of learn to row, I finally found a new athletic passion. Rowing pushes me both physically and mentally and helps me stay focused. I spent my Novice year in a 4 and an 8. After attending UVA crew camp that summer, I started sculling. Being part of a club team has allowed me to become more social and meet new people that aren’t part of my school network. During Sophomore year, as my double partner was starting the recruitment process, I realized I also wanted to row in college. My Junior Academic year has been cut short due to COVID-19 and my grades are based on 3 nine weeks instead of 4. I have been focusing on my school work this second semester and finished with a 3.7 for the 3rd nine weeks. Since my Spring Competitive season has been canceled, I am currently ERGing for a minimum of an hour a day to improve my 2k and 6k time as well as studying for the SAT and ACT I am excited to see what opportunities I have to row at the collegiate level.
