Personal Statement
As a soccer player, I have been fortunate enough to have been given the opportunity to play in many top programs, including ECNL and the MLSNext programs. Through my career, I have developed not only as a player but also as a person.
In my time playing soccer, I have learned many lessons and values. Soccer is not a one-man sport. To win, I believe it takes teamwork, support, and a desire for excellence. These things are not only important in my game but also in my life.
Through soccer, I have learned how to work with others, lead, persevere, and never give up on my passions and goals. Being involved with MLSNext has given me so many opportunities to improve and compete with players at the highest level. This has pushed me to work harder and truly strive to get better every day. Each day, I travel an hour to and from practice, and I continue doing this because I believe that this is how I get better, and because it is fun. This not only translates into my play but also off the training pitch. I strive to excel in everything I do, at whatever cost it is to me. I have never been the best on the team, but over time, my hard work has pushed me infinitely past what I thought myself capable of. That is why hard work, dedication, and striving for excellence are now all key components of my life today, both as a player and person.
In academics, I apply the same values and principles that I have learned from soccer. Just as I strive for excellence on the field, I also aim to succeed in every aspect of my schooling. I believe in pushing myself to achieve high grades and always set my standards high. As both the president of the National Junior Honor Society and the Head Representative of my grade, on the Student Council, I have taken the leadership roles that come with them. Balancing my commitments in soccer and academics is crucial and very important to me, because it allows me to succeed in both areas. I personally have a passion for studying science, and I am looking towards a future in helping others through medicine. Ultimately, I believe that through applying the values that I have learned from playing soccer to my academics; I have been and will be able to excel in all the things I do.
Overall, being able to play soccer at this level has not only shaped me as a player but also as a person. I have learned the value of hard work, dedication, teamwork, perseverance, and humility. I hope to continue to grow as a player, as a student, and as a person as I pursue a future in college soccer and medicine; and to use the lessons I have learned and the experiences I have lived through to make a positive impact both on and off the field.
“Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do.” - Pele
