My name is Ryan Lucas and I have been playing soccer since I was 8 years old. I started in AYSO and NYS and then went to indoor soccer and join Club soccer. Every summer, I do at least one soccer camp. Some are specific to goalkeeping. I play Goalkeeper as my primary position and love it. I also play defense and midfield when I can. I have been the solo goalkeeper on both the Inferno SC team and now on Valparaiso United FC team. In 5 years, I have only missed 2 games. I'm very dedicated. This past year I was ask by another Middle school “North Phoenix Prep“ that has a soccer program if I could play goalkeeper. Since my middle school did not have a soccer program, the athletic director allowed me to. My team I went on to the Championship. This was at the same time as my club soccer so I had a lot of practice and games. My dad is the High school soccer coach at North Phoenix Prep so I got to assist coach the goalkeepers.
My grades have always been at a 3.5 or higher. When I have spare time at school, I do my homework and study which allows me the time to practice. I was recently accepted to the International Baccalaureate (IB) program at Barry Goldwater High School. I have heard this a great step toward college and I’m excited. I have already been looking into college with my parents and thinking of what areas I would go into as well as continue to play soccer in college. The two areas I’m very interested in are Technical and Space science.
When I'm not playing soccer, I referee club soccer games. I have been referee for 2 years and I’m a Grade 8 referee. I have Assist Referee up to U17 and Center Referee my own age group U14. In Arizona, there is small group of 150 Referees out of 1,700 that are offered to Referee Presidents Cup, State Cup and Arizona Premier league games and I'm part of that group. Todd Sergi is the assignor for those groups and as a reference, his email ID "[email protected]". Refereeing soccer helps me with my own game by, keeping in shape, seeing other teams and how they play, and learning different techniques as well as what the referees expect and knowing the game and rules that you wouldn't normally as just a player. I have training from FIFA and English Premier league referees. This also teaches me how deal with people that can be unruly.
In just the past year, I have refereed the following
Leagues:
Arizona Premier League
Arizona State League
Port-O-Sub Open League
