I love soccer. I love everything about it – practicing, playing, and watching. I started playing when I was 5 years old and at the age of 12, in Grade 7 I joined Totton Diamonds (my first club), but it feels like I've been playing soccer my whole life. Since Grade 7, I have worked and trained on developing my game to become the best player I can be , capable of quickly adapting to different formations or positions, for example striker, winger or an attacking centre forward.
I watch the Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, and even the EFL matches whenever I can, and these have taught me much about the game. I display leadership both on and off the field. I am a passionate and vocal leader who can handle the pressure and who tries to motivate my teammates whenever I can. I plan to follow in my sister’s footsteps; she is a successful collegiate Tennis player. She is my inspiration. She always works hard, shows dedication and perseverance in all that she does and is honestly one of the strongest people I know.
I am committed to becoming the best student athlete I can be both in the classroom and on the field. I believe with hard work, support of a team and a plan anyone can be successful. This is why I feel the college choice is crucial. Success in life will be based on my hard work and the team I surround myself with, including my family, closest friends, college professors, coaches, and teammates. I look forward to the journey ahead. I attend church every Sunday and I used to be an Altar Server for four years. In school, I try to leap at every opportunity I get to better myself or gain a new skill. As a student athlete, I understand that academics have to be my primary focus. I have a 2.0 GPA and I work hard in class because I understand that my education comes before anything on the field. I want to study Business or Social Sciences in the hopes of one day pursuing a career as a Project Manager or an Anthropologist.
Winning the Fraser Valley Cup in 2019 was the highlight of my athletic career. Not just because we won but because it taught me a valuable lesson as a student-athlete. That experience helped me grow as a person and taught me to be confident and to trust myself and my skills even more than I already did. It also taught me that I can deal with pressure and to trust my instincts on the ball. Clearly, I feel that I gained wisdom and knowledge. I now know how to deal with the pressure, and I know that I can trust myself and my skills on and off the pitch. This new-found knowledge allows me to be confident in all that I do.
However, in October 2020, my team Abbotsford United Soccer played our first game in Division 2 and lost 0-1 with 9 players as a team and with no subs. This taught me a valuable lesson about how to move on from a disappointing loss, and overcome it. We then rose to the top of the table and won the league, allowing us to compete against Division 1 teams. This shows how hard our team fought and how dedicated and strong we had to be. I was joint top goalscorer and had the most assists in our team.
Playing doubles as a tennis player and being part of an amazing team, I have learnt the value of teamwork, commitment, sacrifice, and leadership this year. I'm looking for a program that will be a good fit for me athletically as well as academically. I believe that I not only have the talent to compete for a college team, but the character, work-ethic, and skills to make an immediate impact on your program.
What makes me a good candidate for your team is that I focus a lot on communication, both defensive and attacking positioning, and I always make sure our team is in the best shape we can be. Additionally, I get us motivated and ready to play. What makes me different from other recruits is that I’m very tall and fast; I’m 6’4 and 175 lbs. I have a strong physique on the pitch, as well as strength and agility, which I feel could be a key asset to any team. I am an attacking midfielder with good counter attacking capabilities due to my quick thinking and awareness on the pitch. I also have a powerful and consistent cross.
To conclude, I possess the skills, strength, and passion necessary to excel.
Thank you for your consideration.
