My transition from city league soccer to club soccer was a huge change and challenge for me. I went from the top goal scorer in the league with 25 goals to sitting on the club team’s bench with a grand total of zero goals. As I saw from the bench all of my new teammates playing at such a higher level, it drove me to crank up my work ethic to the limit. I began pushing myself to become stronger, faster, and more technical to show my coach that I was good enough to play with the team. I was even willing to give up on pursuing the forward position, and was open to any new position where I could get playing time. Over time there was an opening in the defense. As a former forward, I did not know much about defensive shape and tactics, but I competed for and won the position. I began to learn how to play as a defender; finally getting my long awaited playing time. It was rough at first, jumping into a position that was polar opposite of my previous one, but I embraced this new position and began to even like it. Inspired by my older brother who was a starting mid-fielder on his high school and club teams, I was driven to work my hardest. I joined the cross-country and track teams solely to get fit enough to play my best for the full ninety minutes. The countless miles that I ran helped get me to the level I am at now.
My ambition to always better myself both academically and physically has led to my success in academics and sports (4.0 GPA, Defensive MVP, All-Conference, Conference All-Star, and 3 time varsity league champion). Now I would like to apply my learned skills and my work ethic to the collegiate level.
