Personal Statement

“People who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do” (Rob Siltanen). Since my exposure to this quote I’ve always dreamed about all those who were “crazy enough” to change the world. I thought of Steve Jobs revolutionizing technology with the launch of the first iPhone and I thought of Muhammad Ali using his unique attitude to climb to the top of the boxing world. It’s obvious that the similarity between most success stories is the drive they have for what they do and their eagerness to improve and build upon what they are already capable of doing. The question I always ask myself is “What is that one subject that drives me?”

I’ve loved to help people since I was in the 6th grade, going on convalescent home visits and creating for them cards and gifts we made previously at home always created great memories. I continued my passion of helping others the summer before freshman year. I volunteered at summer camps and organizations that needed a councilor to chaperone groups of kids. The fall of my sophomore year I was given the opportunity to join a program at my school known as Campus Ministry. It further allowed me to pursue my passion for helping around the community. Here I am able to assist the nearby preschools, maintain the quality of our beaches through beach clean-ups, and coordinate mass for my school community. Campus Ministry, a program I have continued to be in through senior year, has allowed me to continue what it is that I love to do.

Club soccer has always been a large part of my life since the age of 7. I’ve played for multiple different teams all at a very high competitive levels. I sincerely enjoy the tactics of the game, the hard work needed to push to a win, and the teamwork needed in order to overcome your opponent. Through soccer I have been able to travel to Texas, Florida, Nevada, and Mexico competing in highly competitive tournaments and playing against teams from all over the world.Teams from Japan, Spain, England, Brazil, and more all meet in one place to decide who the best around really is. It’s exciting, motivating, and amazing to be apart of experiences like these. I hope to participate at a high level in college and see how far I can take the sport I love.

In middle school my favorite subject was math. When being placed in high school with a larger variety of subjects I began to take accelerated science and math courses. The one subject that has interested me the most is physics. The ability to apply the natural laws of the land to everyday situations and calculate the exact solution to your problem almost seems impossible. I want to be able to continue this newfound interest in physics and my already existing interest in math in college. My hope is to make a career, in the engineering field, using those two subjects as my guide.

“What is the one subject that drives me?” I have a passion for helping those around me have a better day, a passion for competing against the highest level of athletes, and a passion for the two subjects I enjoy most. The truth is, they all drive me, but in different ways. They drive me to be a better person morally, physically, and intellectually. They all helped to create who I am today.
