I became interested in soccer when I was in fourth grade, and my best friend decided to sign up for the soccer team at my school. Naturally I became kind of jealous, I figured that I would try and play a sport that would help me improve my footwork and handling in basketball since I wasn‘t doing so well on the court. In sixth grade is where I found my true passion for soccer and for the goalkeeper position, during this chapter of my life I decided to go and tryout for a competitive soccer club team in Los Gatos called “Los Gatos United.” After I joined this club team I made a decision to drop basketball and stick with soccer because I was doing much better and making more progress on the field. A valuable lesson I learned from playing soccer and playing as the goalkeeper for my team was, becoming the best doesn’t just happen in 1-4 weeks, becoming the best takes patients, time, effort, practice, commitment, and a little extra from yourself. I also learned that practicing with your club and other programs or camps isn’t enough, it’ll only get you 99 percent of the way and I learned that in order to achieve 100 percent in your sport, that last 1 percent is all on you.
I have two main goals for soccer. One goal I plan to achieve is to play on the varsity team as the starting goalkeeper. My second goal is for as long as I continue to play. weekly, if not daily, I strive to improve on my skills as a goalie and to continue being consistent in how I play and show my leadership on and off the field. Two main goals I plan to achieve academically during high school is to be able to read and write in mandarin fluently. My second academic goal is to be able to gain a deeper understanding of geometry and algebra. I have two main aspirations for my collegiate soccer career. My first aspiration is to be able to play mens soccer for the college I get into and to also get the starting position. My second aspiration for my collegiate soccer career is to be able to win some titles and cups for both the college I choose to go to and myself.
