I see myself in the tradition of the scholar athlete. As a soccer player, I have the same powerful desire to win, to work hard, to never give-up, to support teammates, and have the discipline required of successful pros. Collegiate soccer will help me satisfy and further develop these personality traits, traits that will give me a competitive edge in business after college.
In college, I plan to major in economics or business to prepare myself for the world of international business. I developed a deep interest in economics and how the world economy works after taking AP Economics as a sophomore. Since then I have been attending discussions on current economic events from noted economists who played major roles in the real world, including Joseph Stiglitz, Michael Boskin, Martin Feldstein, George Schultz and Larry Summers.
Part of the attraction I have for international business comes from my interest in languages, other cultures and travel. I have dual Swedish and US citizenship – which will allow me to work in the US and the EU without the need for a work visa. After learning Spanish from kindergarten to fifth grade, I took Japanese from seventh grade and will continue Japanese through AP Japanese next year. I have also been fortunate in having travelled to several countries experiencing their culture and traditions, including Sweden, Japan, Denmark, UK, Italy, Mexico, South Africa, Namibia and UAE (Dubai). I also had the great experience of playing soccer in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, were I met Zico, one of the best players in the world in the 1970s and 1980s.
