Personal Statement
A strong candidate for any University soccer team is a passionate student, a creative thinker, and a courageous leader. For the past two years, I have been a youth soccer coach for both boys and girls American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) teams. I have over ten years of soccer experience, including two years with the Matrix Soccer Club. Last year, our coach quit and the team disbanded. My love for the game stayed, so I decided to start coaching. I didn’t want any other players to have a coach abandon them, so I started coaching to lead the athletes and show that I care. During my first season I was 16 years old, and had an Under 8 girls team (U8) who finished the season winning most of their games. The key to winning as a coach is getting the players to want to play for you, and getting involved with them at practice. That is why they are winning games. It was a fulfilling experience that encouraged me to continue coaching enthusiastic athletes. I am currently coaching a U12 boys team and having continual success. At young ages, it is crucial for these athletes to develop fundamental skills, and if they missed a season or skill, it’s my job to help them learn that skill while encouraging them to continue playing soccer. I enjoyed sharing my soccer experience with my teams because I saw how eager they were to listen and learn what I had to offer. I continue coaching in hopes that I’m helping kids find a voice for themselves in the future, and to teach them to pursue their dreams in life.
