Playing soccer has had all sorts of positive impacts in my life including teaching me resilience, character, and a strong will to succeed.
I have been playing soccer since I was 6 years old. I wanted to only play soccer .. all the time. I now want to continue this passion through my college years while gaining a strong academic foundation.
For the last 8+ years, I have been playing club soccer for Barcelona Bay Area in the National Premier League and futsal during the winter months for my club team and the men's Legends futsal team.
I love my team and have been with many of them through the ups/downs over the years - my team won many awards including two State Cup Championships (2018, 2014) and winning the 2020 Juventus college showcase tournament. All along, we have matured as a team and worked our way up and to keep our spot in the highest ranks of the NPL.
I have had to put in extra work to build up technical skills over the years and constantly challenge myself with new opportunities. For eg I applied to and got selected as a stay and play at Fundacion Marcet at Barcelona during the summer of 2018. I don't get disheartened by losing games or lose my temper at any point - I keep trying and work closely to learn more from my coach, my team mates, the competition and any other opportunity I get.
My main position is an outside midfielder where I am able to utilize my speed and quick skills to beat defenders and create many scoring opportunities. I am also quick to run back to defend. Additionally, I play sometimes left or right back because I can carry the ball from the defense to the higher parts of the field where I can cross, lay it off to the striker, or finish.
Over the years, I have learned to develop a fierce work ethic on and off the field as well as the development of time management skills. I work hard to maintain a GPA of 4.0 and weighted GPA of 4.76+ at one of the most rigorous STEM schools in America. I study at Basis Independent Silicon Valley - the #1 STEM School in California, #2 STEM School in US - https://www.niche.com/k12/basis-independent-silicon-valley-san-jose-. I have completed 7 AP classes in my freshman and sophomore year and will be taking another 6 AP classes in my junior year. I am also a member of the National Honor Society,
Outside of soccer and studies, I have a deep interest in spreading awareness for mental health and trying to innovate applications which would help these individuals. A close soccer team mate got addicted to Opioids after an injury two years ago and that spurred my interest in this area. I actively volunteer @ Santa Clara Opioid Prevention Committee. I started to make a blog on medium about the effect of opioids on mental health in sports(https://medium.com/@sidsoc12/affects-of-opioids-4225753e1551). Earlier this year, when COVID struck us, I founded an app, Hospitable which launched a few months ago (htttps://www.hospitable.live) which shows data such as the number of beds and availability, for each hospital in each county in the United States. I will continue to work on it through summer, adding more resources and enhancing it with other features. I am currently interning at Lucid Lane, a company which aims at preventing anxiety and substance abuse. I work on the clinical side as well as assist with the technological implementation of their program. Additionally, I am also working with Elemental Mental Health Advisory Board, where I design products targeted at addressing mental health in teens.
With my mix of interests in STEM and teen health, I am interested in majoring in computer science and psychology. When I go to college, my goal is to up level my learnings across science and soccer, maintain a strong academic record, excel at playing competitive collegiate soccer all while building new relationships that I hope to carry on for the rest of my life.
