My name is Nicholas (Nico) Smith and I am member of the class of 2020. I am a left-footed, outside midfielder for the Santa Cruz Breakers FC U19 team in the U.S. Development Academy. I attend Scotts Valley High School in California where I played one year of varsity soccer as a freshman before committing fully to my Academy team. I am looking for a university that offers an impactful business program (Marketing & Sales) as wells as a competitive soccer team.
Soccer is my primary passion and a sport that I have been playing since I was 3 years old. I expect that I will always be connected to soccer in some manner for the rest of my life, whether it be as a player, a referee or a coach. Soccer has taught me about teamwork, time management, and perseverance; all attributes that will help me be successful in college and in life. To be an impactful soccer player I have had the discipline to incorporate speed and weight training regularly into my weekly practice routines. As a result, I am often one of the faster players on my team and can endure the many field sprints that midfielders require. I became a soccer referee when I was 13 years old which “married” business with my passion. As a referee, I developed better communication and conflict management skills. Additionally, I was able to earn enough money to find, negotiate and buy my first car all before I had my driver’s license. This same drive and work ethic has helped me manage my dyslexia and achieve academic honor status in high school.
I invite you to attend one of my upcoming soccer games, or visit our Breakers FC field at the U.S. Soccer DA Summer Showcase in Oceanside, California (June 17-21, 2019 at the SoCal Sports Complex). You are also welcome to contact our Academy Coach, Simon Tobin ([email protected]), with any questions about my character and player abilities.
Thank you for your consideration and I look forward to talking with you and learning more about how I can contribute to your team.
Respectfully,
Nico Smith
