Personal Statement
My name is Nicholas Fernandez and I’ve always played competitive sports such as baseball, football, swim, cross country and soccer; however, my passion has always been soccer. Because of this, I’ve focused my attention and dedicated my training to the sport of soccer in order to play at the highest college level. I have also had a strong interest in natural science and geology. I’ve competed on numerous natural science teams and have been a finalist in Nature Bowl competitions at Sacramento State University several times.
My primary academic goal is to attend a college that I will graduate with a degree in Environmental Science/Geological Engineering and my athletic goal is to play at the college level in a competitive soccer program. Therefore, I’m looking for a college that can allow me the opportunity to achieve both these goals.
I’m very competitive and a strong team player. I would be an attribute to your team because of my work ethic, dedication, ability to learn, and willingness to put out 100% at every training session and game. I’ve always got along well with my teammates and coaches and believe in doing what’s best for the team to win games.
I can make a difference on the field. I strive to be a complete soccer player, technically and tactically; well prepared for matches mentally and athletically; I understand the importance of balanced play between being aggressive yet staying true to my position; I’ve worked hard on agility, conditioning, and speed as well as being equally proficient with both feet.
Lastly, I know the importance staying on top of homework and keeping good grades. Although during the last three years my club team has traveled to North Carolina twice, Chicago, Hawaii, and Oregon, Washington, Nevada and Arizona numerous times, I have been able to maintain my grades and have achieved scholastic honors in high school while maintaining this rigorous club soccer travel schedule.
