Personal Statement
College is an opportunity for me to start over, to build new, productive and healthy habits. It's also an opportunity to build on top of the skills I've learned over the years. Soccer has been a central part of my life ever since I started playing when I was about ten years old. I have put in many hours of hard work to improve and earn my playing time. Once I was at or around the same level as the rest of my teammates, I didn't stop, I wanted more. I started to notice that I took training sessions a lot more serious than the rest of my teammates. To this day, my post-defeat thoughts are filled with regrets and analysis of things that I could've done differently to lead my team to the win. I can't help but to blame myself for not being able to carry the team to the win. Despite this, I have learned that I am part of a team, and the responsibility to win does not solely fall on me. I think that my character, which wants to win in everything I do, is responsible for me taking losses so heavily. I try and learn as much as possible from my defeats to stop myself from losing again. I simply cannot bear it. This follows me through to the classroom. I've always had the mentality that dedicating anything less than 100% of my effort into something, is unacceptable. Over the years, I've lost some of that motivation in the classroom, but am still proud to say that I have passed all of my classes, some AP classes and their corresponding AP exams. I have taken quite a bit of advanced classes, most of which fall under the subjects math and science. They are two subjects in which I can become completely invested in, other subjects are simply not that interesting to me. This is why I plan to major is a field of engineering or physics. I want to either work hands on in engineering or in research in the field of physics. Of course, my first choice in career would be a professional athlete. Overall, I simply want to have some impact on people, whether that be by playing for someone's favorite team and winning championships, or changing the world through my work in science and giving back to my community, and those who have helped me on the way, in some way.
