Personal Statement
The 2019 High School season has been my ultimate highlight thus far. The background on this is that Broomfield High School plays in the toughest conference to 5A Soccer in the state of Colorado. This season, we won the 5A State Championship! With our team being quite young to most others (4 sophomore starters...3 in the back line with me). As a Team Captain, I took leadership of that line and help lead my team to a 12-2-1 regular season record landing us as a #9 seed in the CHSAA 5A State Playoffs. After our 1st round win, we then had to defeat 3 conference rivals (and probably 3 of the top 5 teams in the state); #8 Fairview (1-1 into a SO, 5-3 win), #1 Legacy (0-0 into a SO, 5-4 win), and #5 Boulder (2-1 OT win). We then faced Regis Jesuit and won in regulation 1-0. And at the end of this season, I was recognized as 1st Team All Conference and 1st Team All State for Colorado 5A!
On the field, I feel like I've grown so much in the past few years. I've always been a good wide player that has the ability to go forward. A few years ago was when I got moved into the back line and I think that has really helped me understand the importance of tactics and mentality. That understanding has gotten me to sharply improve my positioning in the field. This has also helped me to become somewhat of a utility player with the ability to play anywhere on the back line and as a wide player in the midfield and as a forward. Being a left footed player has also been hugely beneficial when it comes to set pieces. I generally take any free kick on the right side of the field including corners and I have the unique ability to deliver a dangerous ball into the box from my own half of the field.
The field isn't the limit of my ability either. I excel in the classroom maintaining a 4.34 cumulative GPA throughout high school so far. I'm currently enrolled in three different AP classes which end up consuming a lot of my time at home. In both completed seasons of high school soccer at the varsity level, I was recognized as an Academic All-State athlete 2 years in a row for maintaining such a high GPA. As of July 2019, I received the AP Scholar with Distinction – Awarded to students who average a minimum of 3.5 on all their AP exams and score 3 or more on at least five of these exams.
I want to go to a school that will cater to my drive to grow both academically and athletically. When it comes to soccer, I want to be able to compete for a spot on the field because it will make me the best player I can be and show how much of an asset I am for the team's ability to win. I want to build upon my post season experiences in high school and help the college team I choose achieve greatness an the post season. I also want to be challenged in the classroom, but enjoy my time pursuing a degree.
