There are a few words that come to mind when I think about myself as an athlete: Disciplined, and Persistent. These qualities have not come easy to me. I have been playing competitive club soccer since 7th grade. I was put on JV my freshman year, which is typically expected at that year in high school. A little while into the season, I was playing center back when a slightly heavier player ran past me and scored a goal. I received quite a lot of criticism from teammates, and I wanted to just quit. My parents encouraged me to keep pursuing my passion for soccer. This was a major turning point for me. A realization that it was my responsibility to become an elite player. I began taking my recovery to the next level. I have done extensive research on nutrition, stretching, and weightlifting. I had been attending a local gym for some time now, but I began taking it more seriously. One of my neighbors used to play for a DII college for soccer and is a certified trainer. I got some sprint training courses from her and trained during the summer after freshman year. I got my body to a point where the only thing holding me back was my mind.
Sophomore year rolled around, and I was doing exponentially better than my freshman season. I made Swing that year but did not play in almost any of the Varsity games, but just practicing with the upperclassmen increased my performance greatly. I repeated what I did the summer before sophomore year and trained harder than ever before. I came back to some pick-up games a month before the next high school season would start. Everybody was shocked at my performance, including the Varsity coach. I went on to play in every varsity game that season and lettered in soccer for the first time. Being the best in my craft is my driving motivation. I tried out for the competitive Premier 1 team and made the roster. Now, for the last 2 years I have played in every game for club and high school. I come to all the training sessions with the goal of being better than I was the day before as well as pushing my teammates to do the same.
My new goal is to reach the highest level of soccer I can in college, and I am willing to go through anything in order to get there, while at the same time excelling in academics.
