Personal Statement
To me, the game of soccer is an art. The many different styles and tactics of the game can each be effective, which makes the game unique and is why I love competing in the sport.
I really began to love the game when I got a new U15 club coach, Ricardo Guerra. He transformed the game for me, and our team began to play with a new possession based style that incorporated everyone, even the goalie, into the attack. This was completely different from my previous coach who played a direct, over the top style. During my time with Ricardo, I grew tremendously as a player even through the obstacles such as a language restriction and developing a whole new system of play that took a while to come together.
I have been playing soccer since I was four and since then I have always aspired to play in college and potentially professional. In my family, academics have always been above athletics, and it is my goal to maintain a weighted GPA above 4.0 throughout high school. I have developed a lot as a player as I went from having mono during tryouts and being placed on the sixth team of my club at age nine to being on the ECNL team at age 14 and now being the captain of my current Real Colorado 04 Boys ECNL team. I am an excellent leader that is great at communicating the coach’s direction to players and staying organized on the field. I take pride in my intensity and grit on the defensive end and my ball winning ability, especially in the air. My leadership skills, intensity, defensive presence, and most importantly, my unstoppable grind to play at the next level makes me a player that is more than ready to make an impact on your team.
