Personal Statement
Hey, I'm Jonah Bearden, a sophomore at Windsor High School in Windsor, CO. I am a defensive midfielder for WHS and Colorado Rapids Fort Collins 05 Select. I like to think I'm a keystone player; crucial for teams I play on. Not because I'm flashy and score all the goals, but because I play simple, strong, and set up opportunities for my teammates. I do the dirty work. I'm also a leader both on and off the pitch, usually sporting the captain's armband and being identified as gifted and talented by the WeldRE4 school district. Not only do I want to play at an elite collegiate level, but I want to challenge myself in the classroom, specifically in the field of Biomolecular and Chemical or Aerospace Engineering. Here's my resume:
Freshman year's fall season consisted of me playing for two Rapids teams at once, playing an indoor season, and trying out for my high school team. I made an impressive varsity roster along with 17 seniors, and we finished the season 14-0 with our program's first 4A State Championship. I then guest played with three Rapids Central teams, in the 02/03 age group. I got used to playing with much bigger, stronger competition. It forced me to adapt and grow my playstyle.
Sophomore year started with a rather lackluster high school season. It was tough to recover losing 17 world class seniors, but I ended up starting all 14 games. I was dropped into a very unnatural right back position to help strengthen the back line, which was not fun but I got the job done. After that season I really unleashed myself; I trained with three girls teams, two indoor teams, and I tried out for the USL1 side Hailstorm FC who I will be training with over the summer of 2022. I also studied abroad in Costa Rica and Panamá, learning culture, language, and history (included were plenty of pick up games with local kids). My brand new club team played phenomenal finishing 3rd in league, where I played as mostly a defensive mid and occasionally left wing. I scored 5 goals, 3 game winners, and had 7 assists.
