Personal Statement
Ever since I was a kid, I have always wanted to make a living doing the thing I loved the most; soccer. As I grew up, my friends began to grow out of this dream and say it was impossible, but I kept at it. I have always been a natural in school; getting good grades with relative ease but only recently did that get challenged. I am now about to undertake one of the "toughest schedules ever seen" (-my guidance counselor) and am both looking forward to and nervous about the task. My goals in college are to gain more life experience and learn lessons that will set and aid me down the road to adulthood and beyond. I aspire to have a highly positive impact on whatever team I join in college and hope to both teach and learn things to and from my collegiate peers and teammates. What I think makes me a good candidate for any team is my leadership skills. During my sophomore year of soccer, I was voted captain by nearly all of my teammates for the following year because of those leadership qualities and I hope to put them to good use this coming year and throughout my life, wherever I am taken. Another thing that makes me a good candidate for any team is my willingness to learn from any opportunity. I embrace mistakes and ensure they never happen again and always force myself to learn from everything I come across and can apply to another experience down the line. What I believe makes me different from other recruits is my flexibility. I have played this sport since I was five years old and have played every position thinkable consistently. Although my main position is center back, I can and will play on either side of the defense, midfield and occasionally up front, if given a chance. I am also a highly intelligent player off the ball, and can use that knowledge to direct both myself and my teammates to the right position if needed. I have also been prided on my passing ability and progressiveness; where one player would clear the ball or not take chances, I will take the opportunity to play my way out of trouble and try to start an attack.
