I have been playing soccer since I was 5 years old. When I was 6, I started attending soccer camps every summer. That first summer, I went to camps run by different clubs. I remember how most coaches would come around during the drills, tell me I did a good job and go watch the next kid. But there was one coach who said, “You’re doing it wrong. Do it like this.” He showed me how to do the drill correctly, told me to practice that way and came back a few minutes later to see how I was doing. For several years after that, I only did camps and clinics with him. In addition to the camps, I now play on a club team for that same coach. He still gives me criticism and I’m still learning from it, becoming the best player I can be.
Like a lot of little kids, I wanted to be a professional soccer player when I grew up. That may have been setting my sights a little high, but at this point, I believe that I have the talent and skill to play soccer at the college level. I’m coachable, dedicated and have a strong work ethic. I’ve been a captain on my club team since 5th grade and am a leader on the field. I am strong defensively, fast and have good air skills. Defense is my biggest strength, but I’ve played multiple positions which allows me to understand the game well and experience it from different perspectives.
As a freshman, my high school team had 15 seniors. Of the 10 starting seniors, 6 were All-Conference players, 2 were All-State players and 1 was an All-New England player. We were ranked #1 in our class in the state. I scored 1 goal and had 1 assist during that season, but more importantly, I was part of a defense that only gave up 1 goals in 19 games.
As a Sophomore I was a leader defensively and a threat going forwards as well. Throughout the season I started at center back and played center mid in certain situations. As one of two returning starters part of my role was to teach my teammates how to mature and get better. I finished the season with three goals and three assists.
As a Junior I helped to lead my team to a state championship. In the finals I scored two goals, one of which was to win the game 3-2 in the last 10 seconds. Throughout the season we let in 8 goals with 14 shutouts. My role on the field was to step up into the midfield when we had possession of the ball and when we lost the ball to drop back into defense to stop the attack.
I’m not sure yet what I want to major in when I'm in college, but I am thinking of something sports related, possibly Physical Therapy. However, at this point in time, I'm not certain.
