Personal Statement
Soccer is simple, but it is difficult to play simple. These words by Johann Cruyff really speak to my philosophy, both in soccer and in life. I truly appreciate when I watch professionals at their craft make it look easy, knowing it takes years and years of training and commitment to be the best of the best. I am driven to do the same.
I would characterize myself as exhibiting many of the stereotypes from being the oldest child in my family. I am outgoing, confident and a bit of a perfectionist. I try to use these traits to my advantage on the soccer field, serving as a vocal leader to help the team play as a unit. As a center defender, I am constantly communicating across the back line and midfield to ensure we are working together. Expecting to play the full 80 minutes of every game, I pride myself in my fitness with my speed, stamina, as well as my physical play. The most enjoyment I get from the position is from a really good tackle (especially a slide tackle!), winning a 50/50 ball in the air, defending a strong forward 1:1, and switching the point of attack. All while trying to play simple.
I live and breathe soccer - when I am not playing in a game, I am training (with my team, or on my own), watching, coaching, and refereeing. My desire is to continue playing competitive soccer at the highest level in college, while attending an academically strong university that will serve as my foundation for future success.
I appreciate your consideration.
