I’ve always been told “If you are going to do something always put 110 percent in and try your best” This idea has been instilled in me since I was a kid and has been influential in both school and athletics. I started off my athletic career with gymnastics and switched to recreational soccer around 4. It was not until middle school when soccer truly took precedence. In fact, during seventh grade when I pulled my groin and was away from athletics for a month my passion for soccer truly grew and I longed to compete. Through this I no longer saw soccer as just a game, I saw it as a lifestyle, as an art and something that I never wanted to let go of. In soccer I found where I could truly express myself athletically.
I skipped a grade in elementary school and am currently a year younger than what my grade shows. I was able to be stronger and faster than most people my age and also because I was playing with older kids my level of play was always raised. Furthermore, by participating in multiple sports and activities such as taekwondo and track, I was able to develop my game in ways most people wouldn’t. This has led me to never give up and to always play to my strengths in practices and games.
Soccer has created lasting friendships that have allowed my team to be more like a family and has helped me become a very vocal leader on the field, in the classroom, and just in life. It has also helped to instill in me perseverance and respect for myself and others which is necessary no matter where you go or what you do. Once I started high school I began thinking of my future and dream of playing at the highest level possible. This includes going to a university to study engineering or science which I believe I can achieve through the extensive IB courses I take that force me to think in a deeper way than what my 3.6 unweighted GPA would indicate. Soccer is important to me. It has changed my life for the better and playing for a competitive, hard working, collegiate team is part of the dream I have.
