Personal Statement
At my high school I've played on the Varsity Soccer team for 4 years. For my Junior and Senior years, I was Captain, a responsibility I took very seriously. Leading up to season, I hosted preseason practices to get the team out moving and start to develop chemistry. It's always important to me that every player on the team knows that they are important/heard so I'd delegate responsibilities getting other player involved. This also helped get more people to "buy in to" the program. Even in season, I play a large part in helping my coach develop practice plans, lead the warmups before games (that the players developed), put a lot of effort into checking in with team mates and voice team concerns to my coach. I love the relationship I have with my coach and he trusts my knowledge and abilities as a player to help build this team up.
From January to July, I row for my high school. In July 2022, I was selected to be part of the 8 that traveled to England to compete in the Henley Royal regatta, the most prestigious race in the world. Different from my high school soccer coach, my rowing coach was highly motivated and proactive. Even though I rowed half as many months in the year as the other 38 guys, he pushed me to always be in the top 8. Because of that experience, I learned how to build my way up in an unfamiliar environment. I also used my leadership skills when necessary to support the Captains.
I love playing soccer because of the complicated scenarios that come in games, the variety in how you can approach the game and the diverse team environment it encourages.
