Personal Statement
When I was younger, I never really considered going to college. All I was ever interested in was playing soccer. But as I’ve got older and found out more about college, it has opened my eyes and shown me that college offers so much. It would not be a distraction from my dream of playing professional soccer, but instead would be an aid to fulfilling that dream.
Since moving from England, just over a year ago, I don’t think I have ever been more motivated to make my dream become a reality. Leaving family and friends behind that have always believed in and supported me every step of the way and still do, is my fuel and fire that keeps me going. Knowing that they are half way across the world and still support me very single day just makes me more motivated to make them proud. However nothing motivates me more than my family I have here. They mean more than words can describe to me and to make them proud would be the biggest reward I could ever receive. As well as making everyone close to me proud, I want to prove to myself that I can do this and complete my dream that I’ve had since first kicking a ball. There’s nothing I enjoy more than playing soccer!
How I differ from other candidates is that I refuse to be outworked. I have been around amazing soccer players that I considered better players than me, but my determination to keep improving and pushing myself to the limits is where they could never beat me. I’ve always had this hunger within me to see how far I can go and then go further than that, and now being away from home, I couldn’t be hungrier to achieve what I’ve always wanted. As a player, I value my relationship with my coach and my teammates highly. I believe there is no bond stronger than one with a coach and teammates who you could class as family. Individually I’m always prepared to work as hard, if not harder than a coach desires, to prove to them that their belief and support in me doesn’t go unrecognised.
My aspirations in college are to further improve my soccer ability and also, very importantly, leave college with a degree in a field I’m proud of and happy with. Being a soccer player, I understand the importance of nutrition and physical fitness, both aspects of the beautiful game that I am intrigued by. So preferably I would enjoy to study nutrition and or fitness!
