Personal Statement
Soccer is undoubtedly my life’s passion. I started playing the game when I was three, and I have never stopped since. Soccer has shaped me into the person I am today by instilling in me a strong work ethic and teaching me about time management, accountability, and compassion. Playing soccer has guided me through life so far, and I hope to continue playing the beautiful game at the highest possible level for as long as possible.
I consider myself to be an intelligent, skillful, versatile, and hardworking player who, above all else, understands the nature of the game. As such, I can read the game, manage its pace and make adjustments to take advantage of the opposing team’s weaknesses. I pride myself on both my defensive and offensive abilities and I am particularly adept at dribbling out of difficult situations. I am always looking to create space for my teammates by either making runs that drag along defenders or by making leading passes into space. I can accurately pass and shoot the ball with both feet, and as a result, I have scored 12 goals this season and had several assists. On the field, I lead by example, and off the field, I encourage my teammates and push them to play the game intelligently and effectively. I am willing to work as hard as necessary to improve myself both as a player and as a well-rounded individual day in and day out.
Aside from soccer, I also value academics greatly. I have worked hard in the classroom to maintain a high GPA and consistently sought to challenge myself with difficult courses. For instance, as a Junior, I am currently taking AP Calculus 2/BC, AP Physics 1, as well as AP Macro/Microeconomics. Outside of school, I am a member of A Soccer Life Foundation (ASLF - https://www.asoccerlifefoundation.org/ ), a foundation created and led by youth soccer players with the goal of identifying peers in the South Florida area who are unable to afford travel soccer fees. Through ASLF, we raise funds and award scholarships to deserving players to help them cover everything from registration and coaching fees to tournament fees and out-of-town travel expenses.
Ultimately, my goal is to attend a college where I can compete athletically at the highest possible level and attain a world-class education while contributing amply to the school community. I recognize that there are several outstanding colleges with exceptional soccer programs, and I am open to exploring many options with the hope of finding the university for which I may be the best fit both inside and outside of the field.
