Personal Statement
Hello Coaches,
I hope all of you are well and safe. I really appreciate you all taking a look at my profile and statement.
My name is Joshua Rivera and I currently play for Weston FC in Weston, FL. Weston FC is located in South Florida between the Miami-Dade and Broward county lines and one, if not, the biggest Club in Florida.
I want to talk about what soccer has meant to me. Soccer has made me the person I am today. I am a better student because of soccer. I am a better listener because of soccer. I focus better on my present and future goals because of soccer. I am an overall a better person and human because of soccer. I have never been a trouble maker, or never had bad grades, that is because of soccer. I make better decisions as a student and as an athlete because of soccer. I can definitely bring this positive attitude to your program that may be struggling and try my very best to make it better, or to a program that already has those qualities and I can keep that going. I may not be the most outspoken person, or the popular guy, but rest assured I can be someone you can depend on, on and off the field. Soccer has made me this way and built me this way.
I play outside left back, my dominant foot is left and I have great speed. I always work on my speed techniques in the offseason at Bommarito's Performance Systems (bommaritoperformance.com), where professionals of all sports train. I have been going there the last 3 summers to work on my change of direction, first step quickness, strength and explosiveness. I have been playing the position since I was 7 years old. I am really passionate about the game and I will always push myself and my teammates to always do better. I want to go to a College/University that can bring the best out of me because I know the best is yet to come.
My parents have been very supportive all these years, and I would love nothing more than to make them proud and play collegiate soccer. Its been a dream of mine and I want them to dream with me. They have sacrificed so much for me I don't even know where to start. But whatever I do, they are always there for me. Thank you.
