Personal Statement
Hi, My name is Zackery Strickland. I am a Senior at Columbia High School in Lake City, Fl, and play varsity soccer. I have been playing soccer since I was 3. I love the competition, the team aspect, and just the game. I have put in a lot of work over the years on the soccer field and off. I have played school soccer since 6th grade and travel soccer for 5 years. Overall for a soccer standpoint, I am well rounded and though most of my career so far I have played defense, I do whatever the team and coach needs. I connect well to my teammates and enjoy working with others for a common goal. For High school soccer, we play 6A division. My goals for this year is to play my last year for CHS and give it my all, winning districts as well. My academic goal is to continue to excel in the classroom. I have a 3.75 GPA that has been maintained my entire high school career. To reach my goal to become a mechanical engineer I need to stay strong in my academics this will help me achieve my dreams on and off the field. My big goal this year is signing to a college for soccer and my career choice and be dedicated to the classroom and the team. I believe that hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard. When COVID hit and we were forced to stay home I had to reevaluate everything in my life. Instead of feeling sad for all we were not getting to do, I had to figure out what I could do to stay in shape even though I couldn't play soccer. So, I started to run and found an additional love. I set myself goals of time and distance and I ran every day until I met those goals. I also got in the best shape of my life and it helped me get through being isolated from my peers. Last but the most important thing about me is my faith. I am a Christian, who loves my God, church, and family. I have played the drums for our praise team for 4 years and enjoyed volunteering children's church camp for 5 years and I am looking forward to whatever God's will is for me for my future.
