Personal Statement
Hi, my name is Austin McDaniel, and I am currently 16 years old. I attend Leesburg High School and I am in the graduating class of 2014. As a student athlete, school comes before sports. My current GPA is a 3.2 which is good but I can do better. I am working very hard to bring it back to where it needs to be. I am unsure of my major but I have a few ideas which you can find on my recruiting profile. Now as an athlete, I made varsity as a starter during my freshmen and sophomore years. As a freshman I started the season as a utility player, and am proud to say can say that I can play every position on the field. During the Christmas break of my freshmen year I was moved to the goalkeeper position. I played keeper in middle school and also in the recreation leagues, so I was very familiar with the position. My sophomore year I made the team as starting goalkeeper. I am 5’8” and for a keeper that may be kind of short, but I make up for it with quickness, aggressiveness, and anticipation. Opposing teams try to kick through balls but I am there before shots get off. 1v1 saves are probably one of my best areas. I excel at reading players so that helps me out in defending the net. The bottom line is I play goalkeeper in a different way than most but it works to my advantage. I play club soccer for the Lake County Lightning and the club name is the Lake County Soccer Club. Our Lightning team has a good keeper so that frees me to play any number of the field positions. I am the backup keeper, not because one of us is better than the other but because I am a team player so wherever my coach puts me, I will do my best. I grew up playing in the field so I learned how to play all the positions. The other keeper is strictly a goalie so my coach puts me in the field. My current video is strictly me playing goalkeeper, but in the future I will be putting up video of me in the field. I would like to play in Florida because it is closer to home, but if your school looks like a good fit I am willing to consider any college. I look forward to talking to you soon. Austin McDaniel
