I'm Ethan Dobbins and I'm finishing my senior year at Palmetto HS in Miami. I have enjoyed playing my HS and Club soccer here in South Florida the past 4 years. I've been fortunate to be named to the All Miami-Dade soccer team 3 years in a row, while leading my Palmer Trinity HS team (soph year) to the Florida State Semifinals. I currently play club soccer for Doral Elite U18 and we have had a very successful season.
I will be taking a gap year in 2019-2020, due to the fact that I'm graduating at age 17 and I'd like another year to develop before entering college. I will be spending the next year in Madrid, Spain, training with the EKRA Football Academy while I am placed on a local club team. I am looking forward to the intense soccer training and playing against a higher level of competition. The academy director told me to expect a much higher level of competition, that even most US colleges play, and I look forward to challenging myself at that level. EKRA specializes in training players to prepare for professional careers, so the training and competition will be excellent. I'll be taking Spanish classes for 5 days per week, so that I can communicate more effectively with my teammates.
I have developed my GK skills by working with strong GK coaches here in South Florida and playing against strong competition throughout the year. One of my favorite things of living in South Florida is the ability to train and play year round, to keep improving my skills. I can't wait to continue my training in Spain when I arrive there in September and hope to keep developing my footwork and shot stopping skills.
I have a type A personality and enjoy directing my defenders on the field and ensuring that our defense is in proper position. I really enjoy playing in intense games where I have to make big stops to help my team win. As the skill level of my opponents rises, I keep working hard to improve my ability to stop the talented forwards that I face. The talent level in Florida has been impressive and I know that Spain will take that to another level.
My size and quickness have helped me impact opponents' shots and make some difficult saves. I have been hitting the weight room pretty hard this year and will continue to do so to keep improving my quickness.
Academics are also extremely important to me as well. I have created two online businesses and really enjoy all the aspects of running a business.. I want to attend a college with a strong business school where I can get a degree while playing soccer.
