Hello, my name is Mikel Riquezes, and I have been playing soccer since I was 7 years old. I have been the captain of my high school varsity soccer team during the last two years and I will also be the captain for my senior year. My school was finalist in the Districts Championship last year, and for the first time ever, we were District Champions this year. I received the Soccer Coach Award for this school year.
I play Center-back or any defensive position. However, I am a versatile athlete and I can play different positions, mainly, midfield. As a soccer player, one of my strengths is my speed and my short and long passing skills. I am a natural leader in the field, specially during game time. I am a team player and have self-control during thought games.
I feel very proud to be a starter in my club team which is top tier ranked. My club team (Coral Estates Strikers Elite 02) is 2nd in the Nation and 1st in the Region and State. We played in the National League and has been seeded for the Nationals playoff to be held during the spring of 2021. Playing in the Nationals has been an amazing experience because I got tup against the best talent in the nation. We did great during the National League games in Panama City during December 2019 by winning 3 games out of 4. I played 90 min in all each four games. We were ready to play the second round in Las Vegas, which was cancelled due to Covid-19. We won Florida State Cup last year and were placed for the semi-finals this year when all soccer activities got suspended due to Covid-19. We are placed 1st in the 2019-20 Florida State Premier League. My team also won the 2018-19 US Youth Soccer National League Sunshine Conference, and won several showcases and tournaments during 2019-20 such as the Disney Boys Soccer Showcase and Weston Cup. I have bene a key player in all this achievements.
As part of my community service, I have worked as counselor assistant soccer coach at the school summer camp for the last 2 years. I am a member of the my school marine conversation club and participated in several beach clean-up events in Miami because I care very much for the environment.
I am looking forward to start my academic experiences while being able to keep playing college soccer which is my passion.
