Personal Statement
I am Brady Mulharan, a 2006 6'0 Centerback/Outsideback who plays for Ideasport SA U19 Showcase. Soccer has dramatically impacted my identity and character, molding me into who I am today. This beautiful sport has taught me valuable life lessons, pushed me to my limits, and helped me develop essential skills that extend far beyond the soccer field. Soccer has also given me a sense of sportsmanship and fair play. As a Captain of many teams, I have learned how to respect opponents, referees, parents, coaches, and rules, shaping my morals and how I treat others. These values have helped my relationships and influenced my decision-making in all aspects of life. I aim to attend a college with challenging academics and a great soccer program where I can earn a starting position while getting an education. After playing soccer all my life, the game has taught me that nothing is given but rather earned and has instilled a strong work ethic and discipline in me. I have committed to rigorous, daily training to excel in this sport and have loved every minute. I have dedicated all my life to soccer, which has translated into my academic life, where I have taken the lessons I have gained from soccer and implemented them to excel in my academic and athletic life. Moreover, soccer has taught me the significance of teamwork and effective communication. I have learned to communicate, support my teammates, take advice from my coaches and parents, and lead my team on and off the field, which has been invaluable. I have applied these skills to my relationships, academic career, and many other aspects of my life. Soccer has also honed my ability to adapt and think strategically. The game can instantly change on the field, which has taught me to make quick decisions under pressure. This has allowed me to stay composed in challenging situations, analyze options, and make sound choices. All essential abilities that are not unique to just the soccer field. These problem-solving skills have been precious in my daily life. The sport has also made me resilient and allowed me to bounce back from setbacks. I have experienced the highs of wins and the lows of losses, suffered multiple injuries that have kept me out of soccer for over eight months, and have been frustrated countless times. Learning to assess my mistakes, overcome obstacles, and stay committed to improvement has strengthened my mental fortitude, making me stronger and better prepared to face life's challenges. If I can leave you with one thing, playing soccer has been a transformative journey that has contributed significantly to the person I am today. It has instilled values of hard work, teamwork, adaptability, resilience, and sportsmanship. These lessons have not only made me a better soccer player but also a better person in my personal and professional life. Soccer has been a teacher, mentor, and source of inspiration, shaping me into a well-rounded and adaptable individual ready to face life's challenges with determination and grace.
