Personal Statement
Hope you can watch the attached news video of my 2018 state championship winning goal for Westminster School! This short clip represents a celebration of 10 years of striving towards all round development and academic and soccer excellence. I always set my personal goals very high and then followed that up with daily effort and work. For example, as early as the 6th grade, I elected to study Mandarin as my 2nd language, and have just finished my AP course in Mandarin this past junior year. I also took this to another level and elected to make a trip to China to continue my Mandarin and culture studies (with Emory U.). In addition, I am also doing a similar service and cultural trip to India this summer to further expand my understanding of the world. (with U. of Minnesota Duluth).
Similarly, with academics I have elected the hardest AP courses at Westminster Schools, Atlanta, a school well known for its academic rigor (top 5 in the nation). My GPA of 4.2 and my ACT score of 35/36 exemplify my efforts in this area.
What I am especially proud off is that I was able to accomplish this success while also accomplishing some lofty goals in soccer... which also required an incredible time commitment. I believe my focus on loyalty, discipline and hard work was what helped me balance these requirements.
With regard to soccer, I spent the past 10 years at the Concorde fire soccer club, sticking it out through ups such as winning major championships, and downs including a year with a broken foot and a disheartening tryout. The constant has been my steady unwavering focus on self-improvement, seeking feedback, working on my weaknesses, all the while supporting my team, school or club. This dedication to my soccer goals has allowed me to play varsity at my school since I was a freshman, and helping my school win state this year! At my club, Concorde Fire, I have played at the DA level and ECNL level for the past 4 years. I have helped my club team win the southeast Regionals playing up on the u18 SRPL team, and am currently helping my team at nationals with the ECNL 99/00 team.
I am fully committed to playing college soccer and continuing my academic success. I hope that I can find a team where my loyalty, character, work-ethic, and leadership skills will allow me to have an immediate impact and support my coach, my team and my college.
