Personal Statement
My name is Carlos A. Ayala-Viera, I am a junior at Mars Hill University in Mars Hill, NC.
Having been born in Puerto Rico, I started playing baseball in California and later in Georgia. But after three baseball seasons in GA I took up soccer when I was 8 years old. I have lettered in Varsity Soccer since freshman year with the Mountain View Bears, secured starting positions during sophomore and junior seasons. On the club side, I played with Atlanta Fire United Soccer Association (AFU), Classic Division I teams for 2014 & 2015. During 2016 I was selected to play at SRPL level (region III) with the Kalonji Soccer Academy but couldn’t finish the season due to injury and transfer back to AFU. At the end of that season I helped the AFU team secure a runner up position during the GA Soccer State Cup that setup the team to get promoted to SRPL.
After graduating, I joined the MHU Lions and was part of their soccer program until requesting my release papers last week. MHU plays within the NCAA Division II in the South Atlantic Conference (SAC). During my tenure with the Lions, I played mainly as an outside back defender or as a defensive midfielder depending on the team’s needs.
During my freshman year I played 8 games of the season’s 15; and last season I played 14 games of which I started on 9.
From a field position standpoint, I’m a very versatile player. I can play left back, midfield & striker.
