Personal Statement
Growing up in Chicago, I was surrounded by the sport of soccer. I grew up playing on recreational teams, clubs, and my passion began there. The passion that I now have is a burning passion, one that I don’t want to give up on. Whenever I step on the pitch, I smile the whole time because of how happy and joyful the sport makes me. My father has been out of the picture since I was about 5, and even though I don’t see him, I know he would want me to succeed. My mother has spent so much time and effort to help me become the best player I can be. Her success as a mother and a lawyer gave me inspiration that if she could become successful in what she loves, so can I. My academic goals for the rest of high school are to get above a 3.0 gpa, and do well on my sat and act. For college, I want to graduate a degree in some sort, at the moment I am undecided, and maintain good grades throughout my time in college. Throughout my time playing soccer, I’ve had obstacles that I had to overcome. Unfortunately, during my sophomore season, I got 3 different concussions. After each one, I was extremely eager to get back. I also worked with coaches and trainers to develop techniques for avoiding concussions on the field. I bounced back after each one, made the varsity team my junior season, and trained harder than I ever did. To this day, I train the hardest I can, everyday I give 110% whether it’s my cardio, or lifting weights, or my ab workouts. I feel like I possess many good skills as a goalkeeper. I stand at 6’4, 205 pounds, and I am an extremely aggressive player on the field. I am not afraid to be aggressive with opposing players or diving in traffic. As a goalkeeper, I know my responsibilities in talking to the team on and off the field, being accountable for my actions, constant practice and workouts, successful on and off the field, and getting along with everybody.
