My favorite high school experience, so far, has been Sectionals my sophomore season. After winning our first game, we played the number 1 ranked team in the nation. In that game, I had 30 saves to 2 goals allowed in a rainy, muddy, and lightening delayed game. While this experience hurt at the time, it helped me learn that sometimes, you can play your best and still lose.
Being a goalie requires not only physical skill but mental as well. Finding the balance between the idea that you are responsible for any goal allowed and that you are only 1/11th of the total team can be challenging. This position has taught me to be both an aggressive leader and a humble teammate. To play at the next level, I believe that I have to hold myself accountable on and off the field. Making sure that I am coachable, a good teammate, and a good student are all important parts of that step.
I look forward to finding a college that teaches me even more valuable lessons, that strengthens me academically, betters me as a person, and increases my level of play in goal.
