Personal Statement
I've grown up playing soccer in Italy but am a dual US/Italian citizen. I am motivated to go to college in the United States because I believe that studying in the USA will provide me with a competitive advantage in the job market, half of my family is in the USA and I think that my abilities on the soccer field will contribute positively to a competitive college team.
My current team is the Italian 4th division team ("Serie D") US Fiorenzuola 1922 where I play as an outside midfielder, either left or right as I'm comfortable playing with both feet. I moved to the men's team full time at the beginning of March, 2019 (at 16 years old) and have played with them in two official games and several friendlies. Earlier in the 2018-2019 season I mostly practiced and played with the U19 team with only 1 day/week with the men's team, occasionally lending a hand with the U17 team for their games when needed. This has been a very complicated season!
Previously I was with the U15 team at the professional (Italian 3rd division - "Serie C") club Modena FC and was a finalist for the Carpi (Serie A) U15 team the same year I went to Modena (2016).
I hope to see you at one of the ID camps I'll be attending in Philadelphia, Amherst and Atlanta in late June/early July this summer!
Sincerely,
Alex Hathaway
