My name is David Igbokwe. I have just finished my secondary school, Harrow School in London - a very prestigious school- a year young. I believe what makes me a good candidate is my desire, passion and work rate. In everything I do whether its sports, academia or volunteer work, I strive for greatness.
Coming from a small prep school I had no idea what the competition would be like going into an all boys school with 800-900 pupils. What I quickly realised is that I succeed when things get tough, where there is more competition. I remember my on my first trial opportunity I was placed in the D team. We had one more trial before the first match and I knew I wanted to push for the top team and prove the coaches wrong for putting me in this trial session. This is where my passion and determination kicked in. By the end of the second trial I was made B team captain where I would play 2 games, scoring 7 goals before moving up to the A team in the first year. From this point on I remained in the top team throughout my Harrow career also becoming top goal scorer at Gothia Cup for our team in 2012.
I also believe that even if you are not the team captain, you are still a leader. This is because, from my experience, you'll always have someone looking up to you. This may be in the form of a friend, sibling or a complete stranger. This could also be on or off the field. I have been a team captain for the B team soccer in year 9, 2010 when i first arrived, for the first two games scoring 4 in the first and 3 in the second before moving up to the A team where I stayed for the next 4 years. I also captained my school house, Moretons (one of 13 houses) to win the inter house basketball tournament in year 11. I've shown leadership off the field too through helping my peers and siblings where I show them what I've learnt and where I've made mistakes and show them how to do better and excel in those situations?.
My goals in college are to not only complete college and get a degree or even a masters degree but to also give it my all in every training session and every game day or meet whether it is soccer or track or both. I am always committed to my goals and I will achieve them, being the first one down and the last one to leave the pitch/track. Eating balanced meals every day consisting of eating/drinking protein after a workout for recovery purposes and also using the gym to maintain and increase strength, power and size where needed.
